Chilworth Technology provide process
safety solutions for a broad range of industries around the world.
As a result, they have an awful lot of information to present.
Under the weight of all this information their existing site,
which was also out of sync with the company’s corporate
identity, needed a serious overhaul - that’s where we came
in. We re-organised and re-structured the site architecture to
make the site easier to use by visitors and administrators alike.
We added features to allow new content to be added without burden
or damage to the site and, visually, we made this important resource
consistent with the identity of the business.
Two challenges came with the brief to re-design this site. Firstly,
we had to make the site relate visually to corporate identity
guidelines (which didn’t cover web sites). Secondly, the
extensive site content demanded a complete rethink on the site
architecture. We started by proposing a new site map. This structure
organised the site content into user-friendly chunks based on
the user’s geographic location. That improved the user’s
experience straightaway.
The new structure quickly communicates
the broad range of services offered by Chilworth Technology,
which was important because previously users just couldn’t
find what they needed (even though it was there). This new structure
was dressed to conform to the company’s corporate identity
and has now become a valuable resource for the business and their
customers and prospects.
With so many services on offer, the
information in several areas of the Chilworth Technology site
needs to be reviewed and updated quite often and it makes sense
for staff to be able to do this. To facilitate this, we set
up a process that allows the client to upload complete files
to the site as well as an ASP interface, working with an Access
database, to provide a means of updating content on the page.
To round off the technical features we used cdonts to generate
e-mails direct from the site.
