Puchi Puchi arrives in the UK!

We are excited to say we will soon be marketing Puchi Puchi for Bandai as they launch it into the UK market. This is one of our more challenging projects to date but we are all very excited about the prospect of being involved in the marketing of such a unique product!

Five obvious ways to speed up your website

This is an interesting read; to us, the 'changes' discussed in this article are obvious, and the kind of things we think about constantly when working on clients websites. But one point really stood out; Jakob Nielson's observation that the '8 second rule' should now be reduced to sub-1 second. Wow, that's fast!

For those not familiar with the 'rule', it boils down to the human perception of speed, and how long people will wait before becoming bored or frustrated. Visitors to a website will expect to see something that not only grabs their attention, but subconsciously confirms they are 'on the right page', within (previously) 8 seconds, and now less than 1 second (simply because technology allows that now). Any longer than that, and there's a risk that the visitor will become bored waiting, and click 'back' (typically to a search engine results page).

For us, that means building sites that 'look right' immediately; auxiliary images and other bits of the page can continue to load in the background, but the essentials must load quickly, if you're to grab the visitors attention. Think about how often you've consciously given up on a site loading (after many more seconds), and then think about how often your subconscious has probably stepped in first...

Design Haus: open for bribery and corruption!

Yesterday we received a pear and chocolate cake from one of our clients. It was delightful.

Dominic made a none so subtle remark to Carolyne at Moto-Lita that we had a new favourite, owing to the cake that we'd received.

We were just totally surprised by a special delivery of fresh cakes from Moto-Lita! Straight in at number one, no questions asked. Cake works every time :)

Hooray!

(And thank you sooooo much! Mmmmmmmmm!)

Christmas sales on net 'to soar'

Shoppers in the UK will spend £200m a day on the internet in the run up to Christmas, with the total holiday spend likely to hit £4bn, a survey suggests. The bumper Christmas online spend - set to be about 50% more than last year - will be followed by big internet sales in 2008, Deloitte's report forecasts. Growth is driven by greater consumer ease with shopping online and the fact more firms now sell via the internet. But rising online spending may cut high street sales, another report suggests.
